Did you know New Yorkers consume more hard liquor per capita than any other city in the US? That shouldn’t be a big surprise since we never have to worry about driving drunk and our stress levels are off the charts. It’s always fun at night but in the morning it’s a different story, especially if you have to go to work the next day.
We all know to drink water throughout the night, but what other tricks do New Yorkers? Here’s a list of things to do WHEN YOU’RE HUNGOVER AND IN PAIN, which should help you make it till the end of the work day.
Drink Pickle Juice
The Russians are big vodka drinkers and this is a trick they use in the motherland. I didn’t believe this until I tried it. People always think it sounds disgusting, but trust me, it works. Pickle juice helps get rid of the hangover because the high salt intake helps keep you from pissing out the water you need to rehydrate yourself. There is also something in the vinegar that helps counteract the toxins. Whatever – it works.
Drink Pedialyte and Orange Juice, which is Full of Vitamin C
Pedialyte is great for replenishing your fluid, another secret learned and shared from my summer Hamptons house. Between the pickle juice and the Pedialyte, you should be able to replenish your much needed fluids by lunch time.
Skip the Morning Cup of Coffee
Sure, you may feel like you need the boost for energy right now, but it’s going to steal what little fluids you have left in your body. If you absolutely need caffeine, then drink a weaker cup of joe. Or try my favorite, Pomegranate white tea. It has little caffeine and the antioxidants from the tea will help you get rid of those toxins.
For Lunch, Eat Foods that are Rich in Minerals
Canned fish, pickles, vegetables, especially green leafy ones, thick white potato peelings and of course bananas are rich in electrolytes. They all are excellent sources for potassium, sodium and chloride, which produces electrolytes and brings you back to life. Pickle juice, mentioned above, works for the same reason.
Take Alka-Seltzer Morning Relief
It’s an old trick I learned in the Hamptons and it always did the trick.
Excedrin Works Better than Ibuprofen
If you have a choice, take Excedrin instead of Ibuprofen. Exedrin has caffeine, which sends the medicine into your bloodstream faster.
Take two multi-B vitamins before you go to bed. If you’re reading this in the morning, we’re sorry. Try taking the multi-B vitamin when you wake up though doctors vary on whether they think this actually works in the morning since it takes hours for your body to digest the vitamin.
