If you’re from New York (or the East Coast area in general), you’re no stranger to the scorching temperatures over the past summer months. Uncomfortable and sweaty yes, and harmful to the skin too.
For many women, this is a problem. Heat steals moisture and nutrients from the body, which leads to dry and damaged skin. Worse, heat leads to lost elasticity and premature aging.
Thankfully, women can rely on home remedies, using all-natural and accessible ingredients, that can protect and soothe the skin. Christine Zalnieraite, author and nutritionist with Beyond Body, shares some of her favorite DIY beauty masks using ingredients such as avocado, oats, yogurt, and coffee.
“Avocado contains vitamin E and C which protects the skin from sun damage and helps the skin’s vitality,” says Zalnieraite. “It also contains biotin, a B vitamin that helps with the skin’s dryness. Coffee is a natural exfoliant for the skin and when it’s applied directly to the skin, you can see a rapid change in the skin.”
Zalnieriate says most women forget to include these ingredients in their skincare routine and instead use store-bought products that are full of toxic ingredients and chemicals. Most skincare products contain toxins such as parabens, diathanolamine (DEA), monoethanolamine (MEA), and triethanolamine (TEA) which have negative health effects and may lead to hormone imbalance and even cancer.
