Now that summer is in full swing and COVID restrictions have eased, traveling is once again possible for many families. But summer travels also mean that homes must be protected from burglars and criminals — 66 percent of burglaries per year are home break ins.

Thankfully, Safe Blue Security provides an affordable smart home security system to keep your home secure while you’re away. The home security system allows homeowners to control doors and locks from anywhere and monitor activity in their home through a mobile device.

Safe Blue Security was founded by David Quintero who isn’t new to the home security business – he’s worked with big home security companies like Brinks, alarm.com, and ADT. After working with these companies for 20 years, he started his own home security business in New York in 2019 with the mission of making New Yorkers feel more safe. Currently, Safe Blue Security provides service for homeowners, landlords, developers, and other businesses.

“What’s unique about Safe Blue Security is that we provide hands-on service,” said Quintero. “Customers work directly with me and my team, from the installation to maintenance. If customers encounter any issues or need assistance, Safe Blue Security is here 24/hours a day, 7 days a week protecting and securing your home.”

So, when it comes to your summer vacation, look to Safe Blue Security. Here are five additional tips to keep your home safe while you’re away, according to David:

Upgrade your locks and doors

We’ve all been home for too long because of quarantine, so going away for the summer is the perfect time to check on the quality of your door locks. 34% of burglars enter through the front door. Replace weak door hinges, change old deadbolts to heavy duty ones, or even upgrade to a smart lock to make home entry keyless and more secure.

Keep your valuables inside rooms

Never leave your valuables out in plain sight and near windows where intruders and burglars can peek from the outside, especially because 65% of burglaries happen during the day time. Instead, keep them in a secure place like a safe (if you haven’t invested in one yet), and locked away in your room.

Install a home security system

Installing a home security system is one of the most modern and technological ways to protect your home from burglars, but unfortunately, only 17% of US homes have one. With a smart security system like Safe Blue Security, you can create lock codes instead of using keys, unlock and lock doors from the app, and monitor your locks and doors when you’re on vacation.

Inform your neighbors that you’ll be out of town

Let your neighbors know you’re going away and how long you’ll be gone. Ask them to regularly check on any unusual activity in your home, pick up your mail while you’re gone, or even park their car by your house’s driveway to make it seem like someone’s home and drive burglars away.

Protect the garage

A common tip may be to lock the front door, back door, and windows (which you still should do), but property crime statistics show that 9% of break-ins occur through the garage. Make sure to lock your garage door before you leave, hide garage door openers in a secure place inside your home, or even better, install motion detector flood lights to catch burglars at night.
